Organization "A"

The sample profile of Organization "A" provides valuable, visible data for the leader and his/her supervisor. A cursory examination of this profile indicates considerable variance among the ten dimensions of Organizational Health. Team members are saying that the organization's greatest strengths are Resource Utilization (RES), Goal Focus (GF), Problem Solving Adequacy (PSA), and Communication Adequacy (COM).
This profile clearly indicates that this organization has a "strong" leader, is well organized, and has a team with a strong commitment to the goals of the organization (Goal Focus).

The profile also indicates areas that are or will be negatively impacting team members' attitudes unless some changes are made. Furthermore, it reveals that the decision-making structure within the organization does not support shared decision-making and/or that the leader is viewed as not being either willing or able to share power and influence with the team (low Power Equalization-OPE). The team's sense of "powerlessness" is probably the primary factor that has adversely affected their Morale (MOR).

Through our interpretation conference and the material in the Optimal Power Equalization Chapter, we will help this leader view low Power Equalization as an opportunity to capitalize on the team's desire to be more involved in collaborative decision-making. Specific strategies for translating these improvement priorities into a Plan of Action are delineated within Organizational Health: Improvement Strategies.

These data should be utilized by the leader to capitalize on existing leadership and organizational strengths and to focus new energies on one or two of the lower dimensions.
